Visiting the Thriving City of Italy, Bologna

Italy always has been the city of charm, romance and beauty and it is hard to say no when it comes to visit Italy for holidays. It has its own style, countless beautiful towns, great history, amazing architecture and works of art whether it is Rome, Florence, or Venice. But there is one city that is quite underrated but it is worth visiting at least once in your lifetime. That city is Bologna, the largest city of Emilia Romagna Region and the 7th most populated  city  in Italy. Bologna is located in northern  part of Italy, just between Milan, Venice and Florence and offers some world famous landmarks and tourist attraction for visitors. Millions of visitors come here every year to enjoy exploring with some other activities  like relaxation at Spas, outdoor sports, golf, cycling on famous tracks and urban tracking. Bologna has a rich 2500 years of history as the city was founded in 6th century BC. After the fall of the Roman Empire, Bologna was taken over by Lombards and this proved to be the golden time for this city as the oldest University in Europe was founded here in 1088. This was the time when some great monuments and historic buildings were established in the city. The 20th  century made Bologna can also be called the Museum city because the it architecture everywhere.
The Guglielmo Marconi international Airport serves Bologna and is one of the busiest airports in Italy. It si located just 6 km northwest of city down town. It receives numerous flights from major airline carriers like Delta, American, Jet Airways and more. There is an airport shuttle service available to reach city center and it cost just 5 Euro. You can also reach Bologna quite easily by train service because of the central location of the city between Venice, Florence and Milan. You can get around the city by buses, trams, cabs and car rentals.
The towers of Bologna are two medieval structures located at Piazza di Porta Ravegnana. Both towers were built in 12th  century by city Patricians and since then these towers have been defying gravity because both of these towers are inclining almost 2.5 meters. The smaller one is called Garisenda which is 49 meters tall, swaying  tipsily to the south and the taller one is called Asinelli which is 102 meters tall. The entry to Piazza di Porta Ravegnana  costs 3 Euro and it remains open daily.

The Basilica of Sant Petronio is the main church of the city located at Piazza Galvani.  Its construction started in 1390 but after so many breaks it finally got completed in 1954 and since then it has been the landmark of the city. The main attractions of the church are the unusual scientific intrusion, the sundial, incomplete front facades and semi constructed apses. The church remains open daily and you can take a guided private tour any time of the day.


The Fountain of the Nettuno  is a monumental fountain located in the Piazza del Nettuno. This is the most visited  monument in Bologna.
