Mombeltran
castle is in Sierra de Gredos in Avila Province of Spain.
Sierra de
Gredso is a mountain range in the central part of the Iberian Peninsula. This
includes a real mountain area situated between the villages Avila, Caceres,
Toledo and the Spanish capital Madrid. Sierra de Gredos has a State National Park because of its beautiful
scenery and some very important historical monuments are located in the region.
One of
the jewels in the historic part of Spain is the historical medieval fortress
Mombeltrane. It was built between 1462 and 1474 by Don Beltran de lea Cueva the
first Duke of Alburquerque. Mombeltran castle stands intact to theis place
ffrom the time when built by the rulers of castile in the Middle Ages and was
also the favorite of Henry IV. The history of the fortress began in 1461 when it was built on the hill of
Sierra de Gredos. It is a solid construction and rugged in the upper part of
towers still intact.
In
the mid of 15th century when the castle was built, Mombeltran was
conceived not only as a hard defensive fortress, but it should serve as a palace, with the result
that it was rich with quite luxurious furnished rooms. Today Mombeltran Castle
remains one of the most impressive castles in Spain
